Who are sopha?
Sopha is a furniture shop that aims to be different. Started by husband and wife team Matt & Emily Scott in 2018. Matt grew up around his family’s furniture business and committed to the industry full time back in 2009. Emily studied French and Computer Science at University, spent several years as a Care Support Worker but became interested in furniture through visiting trade shows alongside Matt for many years.

Sopha aims to put ethics before everything we do; no dishonest sales or artificial discounts. Furniture is bespoke and exclusive whenever possible replacing the dull brands usually found in furniture stores.
We don’t double our prices for 8 months of the year just to pretend that they’re half price for the other 4 months. We don’t reduce from MRSPs or RRPs that the products have never been sold at; we just offer our best prices all year round. We regularly check prices both online and in competitors stores. If we find a product cheaper we aim to match or beat their prices even if they’re having a ‘sale’. We’ve even compiled a database of our competitor’s prices from their advertising and websites to make sure that our average prices are less than you’d find from the big named stores.
‘Sopha’ is thought to be the original Parisian spelling of the commonly used term ‘Sofa’. It’s a great hark back to the past but still fits with the modern aims of the business.
Before you buy
We do not currently have a full interior design service but we do have a visual stylist, Melanie, in store. Call ahead to arrange to meet Melanie and she’ll happily help you out with colours and styles. If you’re local it may even be possible for her to come out to your home and give some advice too.
It’s really important to check size before you purchase new furniture; not just where it will fit in your room but also how we can get it there. Visiting our 'Highbridge Home'
We’re open 9:30am until 6pm Monday to Saturday and 11am to 5pm on Sundays. Our Coffee Shop opens at 10am until 4:30 pm Monday to Saturday and 11am to 4:45pm on Sundays.
We have a private Car Park just off the A38 providing free parking to our customers right outside the store. Our postcode for your sat-nav is TA9 3AE. You’ll find the entrance to our Car Park through the archway between Sopha and the Laundrette next door.
We have put a huge amount of work into making our store accessible for everyone. Our entire Car Park is made up of wider spaces alongside our disabled parking bay with level access into the store via either door. All three of the showroom floors are step-free with a lift between them. Accessible toilet facilities are located on the first floor.
In short… no!
None of our team are paid on commission. It is their role to listen to what you’re looking for and give advice on things like sizes and colours for your room. However hard businesses try; commission doesn’t naturally lead to the best advice.
About our Highbridge Store
Formally known as The George Hotel, it is understood to have been built around 1775 as a Coaching Inn. The former Tattoo Studio next door, having lain empty for a number of years, has now been converted into extra showroom and large window display areas. Having previously been a newsagent the building is remembered by many locally as the factory shop of the former Highbridge Bacon Factory.
The George Hotel closed back in July 2016 and Sopha announced their plans to create a Furniture Store in December of that year, which took over two and a half years to complete the building works.
We have a Coffee Shop on the first floor serving a range of yummy cakes, light lunches and lots of tasty drinks including a range of teas, Fair-trade Coffee and even Hot Chocolate Mountains!
No, of course not! Come in for a panini, yummy slice of cake, a cup of Fairtrade coffee or one of our famous Hot Chocolate Mountains whenever you’re passing. We do take away drinks and cake too!
Where does Sopha's furniture come from?
We believe that smaller factories bring higher craftsmanship…
We don’t really do brands. Most of the big name brands are now owned by multi-brand corporations and that’s just not what we’re about. We love working with smaller factories across the UK to create first class products where we can be confident in the quality. We also love handmade things; sofa frames should be hand crafted with hardwoods, glue and screws and covered by a skilled upholsterer. Manufacturing in the UK also reduces the environmental impact of shipping completed furniture from abroad.
Wherever possible we do use UK suppliers and UK factories. Sometimes however this just isn’t practical. If this is the case we source from the best factories from around the world. We do however work with some amazing UK partners, suppliers and factories.
Whilst we try to sell different furniture as much as possible there are only a limited number of UK suppliers and we do share them with other furniture stores. Where possible what we sell will be different to elsewhere but some products can also be sold through other stores. If you want to know if something is the same please get in touch.
Where's my Stuff?
The vast majority of our products are made to order and therefore will take some time to be finished however we do have a small number of stock items that can be turned around immediately.

Every range takes a different length of time to be delivered. Please check the product page for guide times. Sometimes we will catch the factories at the right time and we can get products delivered early. If you need something urgently please give us a call and we’ll check capacity in the factory for you.
Once you receive your order confirmation email you can track the status of your order at: https://sopha.trackyourorder.co.uk/
Once we receive your order it will be manually checked and entered onto our system, at this point you will receive an order confirmation email. This can take up to 48 hours.
Yes we can, we charge £9 per item (note a mattress is a separate item to the base), just add our disposal service to your basket when you purchase your furniture. If you want to add this as an option after placing your order give us a call on 01278 557751.
We currently deliver through mainland England and Wales for £35 for orders containing one or more large items and £10 for orders consisting of only smaller items.
Unfortunately delivering furniture is an expensive business but we do feel that we’re pretty competitive on our delivery costs.
Stores that offer free delivery actually add their delivery costs to every item, which is fine if you only order one sofa. Buy two sofas and a chair however and you’re paying for that delivery three times over!
By charging for delivery separately we can offer the best overall value for money.
Wherever possible we will deliver using our own team in our own delivery van. This will however change depending on your distance from our Store. Smaller items are usually better delivered by courier and we may use an external contractor if you’re the other side of the country! We will always let you know who’s going to deliver your goods before they get to you.
You’ll be able to track your order using our order tracker at https://sopha.trackyourorder.co.uk. You will receive an automated text message as soon as your furniture arrives at our warehouse and we will call you shortly afterwards. Initially we’ll offer a delivery day and then our drivers will call on the day to give you a two hour time slot to save you waiting around all day.
Yes. This is available on our large item deliveries. We will call you when your furniture is ready for delivery to book a date. We then plan our delivery routes to ensure our drivers won’t end up driving around in circles! On the morning of your delivery we’ll call you again to confirm a two hour time slot.
Whenever we deliver furniture ourselves we will always set everything up in your room and take all of the packaging away. Unfortunately we are unable to offer this service for courier deliveries.
Guarantees, Cancellations & Returns
We guarantee all goods for a period of two years from time of purchase. There are some terms and conditions on this that you’ll find here. There are also some additional guarantees on certain products, check the product page and our terms for details.
We have differing time frames with our suppliers to make changes to orders. If you wish to make a change to your order it’s really important to contact us as soon as possible. You can call us on 01278 557755 or contact us using our contact form.
We are unable to offer any returns other than those set out in the Consumer Contract Regulations. Therefore we are unable to offer returns on any items that have been custom made to your specification or if you have examined the product in our showrooms. Check out our returns policy for details.
