Buy the Best – Buy British

Sopha are proud to be supporting our British Furniture Makers

We support British Manufacturers

We have joined together with other organisations and businesses across Britain’s furniture industry for a special campaign known as the ‘Buy British Furniture Event;’ a month long initiative that started on 19th September and runs until 18th October to promote British Furniture.

At Sopha we’re proud to be selling sofas and beds along with bed frames, mattresses and divan sets made by British manufacturers. Our sofa factories are spread across the UK; including, Nottinghamshire, Essex and North Wales while our beds are predominantly produced in Wiltshire, Suffolk and North Yorkshire. When visiting the store you will find that all the sofas and beds that are made in Britain display the ‘Buy the Best, Buy British, Save Jobs’ swing ticket.

We work closely with a bed manufacturer in Wiltshire to produce our own Sopha exclusive mattress range. Our in-house mattress designer works directly with the mattress factory owners Andy, Keith and Scott to create what we feel is the ultimate range of mattresses giving them the ‘Koala’s seal of approval’.

We are thrilled to be working with, maker of our Somnus beds and Velocity mattresses, Harrison Spinks, who handcraft all their luxury mattresses in their Yorkshire factory having produced the wool for their fillings from the sheep on their own farm. They have also invested in British Steel that they make into their own pocket springs.

Harrison Spinks were featured on BBC Two’s Inside the Factory last year when Gregg Wallace visited the Harrison Spinks factory to see how their unique mattresses were made and Cherry Healey experienced sheep shearing and the process of cleaning the wool on the Harrison Spinks farm.

At the launch of the campaign the chairman of the British Furniture Confederation announced “Buying British is critical to the future of our industry which is why we are launching this campaign. We need to stop the rot and reverse the trends if we are to support jobs, increase the amount of products we make in this country and encourage investment in much needed skills for our young people.”

We want to encourage you to take a look at our British made sofas and beds so we can continue to support these amazing British furniture makers.

Buying local also allows us to support many of the other local businesses and helps boost the local economy, rebuilding confidence in the community, enabling local businesses to prosper and grow. We love working with local businesses such as The Design Hive, Quicksign, Burnham Waste, Whites Farm Shop, Maisey’s Bakery and many more fantastic local suppliers. Independent Retailer Month state that shopping online or out-of-town may save a little time or a little money, but for every £1 spent only 5p trickles back into the local economy whereas shopping locally can be as much as ten times higher.
